Yahoo Groups

Support for Work at Home Moms

There are several Yahoo Groups designed to help SAHM Stay at Home Moms or WAHM Work at Home Moms in their personal and/or business choices.

Yahoo Groups, if you are not familiar with them, are groups of members who share a common interest.

These members communicate with one another by emailing the group’s email address, and everyone in the group gets the message. When someone replies to the message, the whole group is able to read the reply. It keeps all members up to date.

Many groups will need to be applied to, which cuts down on spammers joining groups to promote their inappropriate products.

moms You will need a Yahoo account in order to join Yahoo Groups.

Its free.

When you join a group you will have the option of going on regular mail or Daily Digest.

If the group is a smaller one, or you are extremely interested in the topic, make sure you are on the regular mail.

With Daily Digest, the system will store the messages until you get 25, then will send one big email with all of them.

This can take several hours, if not a day, so if it is important to you that you get your messages quickly, do not go on Daily Digest.

Here is a list of some Yahoo Groups that you might benefit from.

Swap or Trade Groups

Swap or Trade Groups are Yahoo Groups that exist for members to trade their excess inventory or slow sellers. Most of the groups (not all, be sure and check out the groups individually) run as follows:
  • Member offers item to group or individual

  • Member pays postage for shipping item

  • Member receives credit for items value plus shipping price

  • Member may “shop” the group for items offered

  • Member receives items free by using credit she has received for offering/shipping other items

  • Some groups also have 50/50’s. This is where the item is 50% in member credits and 50% in cash. Most cash transactions are processed through PayPal.

Shipping varies. Some groups split it 50/50, while others require the buyer to pay for it all.

There are many Swap Groups on Yahoo! Here are a few:

    Swap_N_Sale
This group is pretty active, with a lot of members. Lots of great things get posted, but tend to go fast. They occasionally hold “Credit Auctions” where you can “buy” an item with your credits. The group of moderators is very much on top of things, and keeps the group running smooth.

    Shopping Groups

woman shopping Shopping Yahoo Groups exist as a way for Direct Sales, Network Marketing, and other mom businesses that sell products (eBay, crafts, online stores, etc) to get sales, and get their name out in the online community.

The groups are generally run one of two ways:

    1. COTM: Consultant of the Month
This is where you are assigned a group.

The groups have 4-6 people in them.

You are required to make a purchase from the COTM in your group. When the month is over, the COTM bumps to the bottom of the list of 4-6 people, and the next person on the list becomes the COTM. So, when it is your turn, you will have 4-6 sales that month.

    2.Grabbing Group
This is where you are not assigned to a group. Each month, every person in the group picks one other person in the group to shop from, and “grabs” that person. That is, they reserve them for when they would like to shop that month. Each month, they make a purchase and receive a purchase.

All groups have minimum amounts that you need to purchase. Some as low as $10 a month, others as high as $30-50. It is important to note, that if the minimum purchase is $10, then a sale of $9.99 is not appropriate. The purchase needs to be at least $10 before shipping and taxes, but after any discounts the consultant might give you. This is just common curtsey.

It is important if you join one of these groups that you have a PayPal Account , as that is the only form of payment some consultants take.

In order to join a group, you usually need to make a purchase from the group owner. This shows that you are serious about joining the group, and it usually counts as your first month’s purchase, though you will not personally be grabbed that month.

Usually, you may represent more than one company (many consultants rep for a handful of companies). There is generally a cap on the number of consultants in any given group. For example, the COTM groups only allow, say one Tupperware consultant per shopping group, but a Grabbing Group may allow a total of three Tupperware consultants.

If your company is taken, you are not allowed to promote that company in the shopping group, and will be put on a waiting list for when someone decides to leave the group.

    WAHWomenShoppers
A Grabbing Group, this group is run by Misty who runs the WAHW Website with Online Vendor Parties . She is also a Tupperware Director.

    WAHMs_Lets_Shop

    ShopwithWAHMs
Another Grabbing Group, this group is very well organized and runs smoothly. The minimum purchase is $10.

    HomePartySwappers
A COTM Group, there are a variety of options. There are several $10, $25 and $30 shopping groups with 3-6 month rotations. The nice thing about COTM groups is you get to know those in your group, as you do business with them on a monthly basis.

If you join a COTM group, I would highly suggest you remain in your group for at least a year. Don’t wait for your month to come and then quit. The relationships you build with your group are far more important than a commission from a sale. You might end up recruiting your group members into your opportunity.

    Exclusive Groups

Many Direct Sales and Network Marketing companies also have Yahoo Groups for their teams.

These can be company or team websites, and are only available to join if you join the team who runs them.

Also, many Online Vendor Party sites have an exclusive yahoo group for their vendors.
