Weekly Website Checklist
What Tasks Should You Do Weekly to Promote Your Site?
Your Weekly Website Checklist
Becoming a webmaster of your own website can give you a nice stream of passive, residual income.
But, even after you have completed your website, there will be minor weekly and monthly maintenance you will need to do.

For example, you will have to regularly go through your links and make sure they all still work.
When you link to other websites, the webmasters of those sites might change their links, or suddenly close down their site.
If you have dead links on your site, you will be punished by the search engine spiders.
You also want to be sure and
add new content to your site on at least a weekly basis.
This is where having a blog, or integrating one into your website can come in handy.
When you keep your content fresh, the spiders will be back and will make note of it, driving more organic traffic to your site.
Fresh content also makes your human visitors happy, giving them reason to come back to your website on a reoccurring basis.
In addition to this, you will want to do things on a regular basis to drive and
increase the amount of traffic you are getting.
Regular article marketing, blog posts, and classified ads can go a long way towards promoting your website for little to no money.
The following is my list of things I try to do on a weekly and/or monthly basis to keep my site current and to promote it. Keep in mind, I said I “try” to do these things regularly. Sometime I run out of time, sometimes I do even more than what is on my list.
Its also important to note that these things need to be done for
each individual website that you own, not Website A this week, Website B next week, and so on.
Now, I'd like to tell you that I'm perfect, and get everything accomplished in a week that I would like to do, but that is simply untrue. I have found that having a weekly website checklist available helps me to keep focused on the tasks I need to accomplish.
The following is my Weekly Website Checklist. I hope you can find value in it. Keep in mind that your list doesn't have to be as extensive, or, at the other extreme, you can set goals for yourself that are higher than mine.
Good luck!
Weekly Website Checklist
--Add at least one content page or blog entryIf you do nothing else, make sure that you add at least one page of content or one blog entry to your website on a weekly basis.
This is the most important thing you can do for your visitors and the search engines. Make sure this is on your weekly website checklist.
My website is set up so that my content page doubles as a blog entry. This way, those looking for a blog will be able to locate me.
I also try and make sure that after each content page is written, I place an ad about the topic in the content page at
US Free Ads
and write an article to submit via
Article Marketing.
--Write one new article
I have had much success with article marketing. Just Google my name “Rayven Perkins” (use quotes) and you will find thousands of results, due mainly to my use of
article marketing.
I do try and write one article based on my new content page, and one article in general about a topic pertaining to my site directly or to one of the levels on my site.
This one activity does more to generate traffic to this site than any other activity on my weekly website checklist.
--Leave 5 Blog Comments
I try and make it a point to leave comments on at least 5 different blogs each week. This really helps to build successful
backlinks
over time.
I make sure that the blogs I frequent on my weekly website checklist have similar topics to those on my site, which generally include any stay at home mom blogs, or those pertaining to the supplemental income streams I recommend.
--Answer 5 Yahoo Answers
If you haven't found
Yahoo Answers,
go take a look right now.
This great site allows users to ask questions which other users answer. Those answering receive points. (The points aren't good for anything, they just feel nice.)
You can look for questions on topics related to your website and answer them without spamming. You can then include a link to your site. Just be sure that your answer pertains to the topic at hand, and that your website fits in as well.
I get a lot of traffic monthly from my participation in Yahoo Answers. It's time consuming, but a fun part of my weekly website checklist.
--5 Forums and Message Boards Posts
Find forums and message boards related to your website topic, and make it a point to visit these boards weekly.
Try and leave at least 5 comments, collectively, on the boards. You'll want to be sure that your signature contains your website address.
Make sure that you follow all forum rules and do not spam the boards. Also, make sure your comments are helpful and quality posts.
--Social Networking
Each week, as part of your weekly website checklist, go through all of your
social networking
sites and update the content. Take a few moments to post a new blog entry, to add a couple new friends, and to leave messages and comments on the profiles of some of the friends you already have.Keeping your information fresh and current goes a long way towards using Social Networking sites to your advantage.
--Squidoo Lenses
Your
Squidoo
lenses are miniature web sites, and as such, their content needs to be refreshed on a regular basis.
Stop by your lenses to add a little more information, write a new cell, add a link, or start a totally new lens as part of your weekly website checklist. Keep your Squidoo lenses fresh in the spiders' eyes.
--Post 5 Ads
Each week, try to post 5 classified ads at places like
Craigslist
and
USFreeAds.
I have had more traffic success with US Free Ads (I get their $9 monthly unlimited plan), though I notice strong backlinks from Craigslist.
These classified ads don't need to be selling a product, but can simply be letting people know where to find information you have on your site. Don't be afraid to link directly to the webpage you are advertising, as apposed to your home page. This will eventually help you obtain higher page rank on each individual page. Make sure you add this to your weekly website checklist.
Monthly Website Checklist
In addition to a weekly website checklist, I have a few activities I do on a monthly basis.
--Solo AdsI personally pay a service to send out one
solo ad
per day for me. I pay approximately $1 per day for this service. The ads go out to hundreds of opt-in Yahoo Groups for me, with hundreds of thousands of subscribers collectively.
Once a month I will write up 8 ads for use for the following month. I run each ad for about 4 consecutive days.
I do this for two reasons: most people have to see an advertisement more than once before they take any action, and there is a high rate of turnover for new members to these particular yahoo groups.
--Ezine AdvertisementI choose one
ezine publication
closely related to my niche market in which to advertise monthly. This keeps my costs down while I am still able to advertise to my markets in a highly effective way.
--NewsletterOnce a month, I try to get out a newsletter. I say try, because for some reason, this task is difficult for me. The best thing for me to do is to schedule a couple hours each month to get it done.
If you'd like to
join my newsletter mailing list
to see what I put together, please do so. Just don't get upset if it takes 5 weeks to receive a copy instead of just 4. I am working on it.
--Check Your LinksIt bares repeating that you should check your outgoing links on at least a monthly basis. Though sometimes a friendly viewer will email you letting you know that a link is dead, that rarely happens.
Just go through your site page by page and click. Edit where necessary.

I hope this list helps you to see what kind of work is involved in building and maintaining a website. It is certainly not a “get rich quick” opportunity. But as your profits climb, and your workload increases, much of these tasks can be outsourced relatively inexpensively.
For instance, blog posts, link checking, and classified ads can be handled by an assistant, freeing you up to write content for your sites. You could even pay your assistant to post your content on your site for you.
When the day comes that you need that assistant, you'll know you've truly made it!
