Walking Down the Tightwad Aisle (Can You Hear Wedding Bells)

by Jenni Lovell
(Susanville, CA)

I have learned that It is better to do it yourself. I am having a wedding and I have a budget of $1,400 that includes venue, cake, performance, champagne and THE DRESS!!

So I am making the dress myself since I sew for a living.

I am making the invitations myself, too. Handmade means no printer, thus no ink. Just some calligraphy and some careful wording. Beautiful.

I will have the booklets made professionally.

I am skimping on all the party favors, for wedding cameras. I will have professional photography, but limited.

I am not having bridesmaids seeing that I would probably have to purchase their dresses. We're all middle class. =)

We are keeping it a small ceremony where only immediate friends and family are invited. Maybe about 35 people.

That is basically all the tips I can think of. The venue we've chosen is very reasonable. So I'll plug them here. The Chism House in Reno, NV. I'm not sure of the link right off hand but it's beautiful.

Thanks for letting me share

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I did mine on a budget as well.

We rented my wedding dress. I got to wear a $2,000 brand new dress, altered to fit me perfectly, for less than $200. This was probably the biggest savings we had.

We also made very attractive, yet inexpensive table centerpieces out of 1 foot square mirrors we got at Home Depot, with a $1 glass jar on each. We tied a yellow ribbon around the jar, sprinkled the mirror with glitter and yellow and purple silk flowers, and added a Betta fish in each jar. They were beautiful! Plus, all the guests fought over who got to keep them. All for around $5 each.

We did splurge on a catered meal, but all in all, came out ahead, spending around $5,000 total.

We also put disposable cameras on each table and got some, well, interesting photos!

Have fun at your wedding! It will be fantastic!
