Walgreens Weekly AdLearn How to Get Walgreens Coupons for Free StuffThe Walgreens weekly ad does have some advantages over the CVS Extra Care Program.
Because Walgreens coupons (called Register Rewards or RRs) are not tracked using a card, you can do as many deals as you are able to do, with no limits, other than those imposed by your specific store. The main disadvantage to Walgreens drugstores? Unfortunately, they do not train their employees (including management) on Walgreens coupons and manufacturer's coupons. Consequently, I have found, in many Walgreens drugstores I have personally shopped in several states, that frequently a couponer is made to feel like a criminal, with bad attitudes, and much negativity coming from employees. (I once had a Walgreens manager want to know where I lived and wanted me to hand over my driver's license for using three Walgreens coupons in his store, that printed out of his machine - I flat out refused. This after he had wasted more than 20 minutes of my time scrutinizing the coupons! Did I mention I had my cranky two kids with me and I was eight and a half month's pregnant with twins?? I boycotted Walgreens for more than 6 months for that one.) Register Rewards
Here's how it works: you purchase specific items advertised in the Walgreens weekly ad, and a coupon automatically prints out of a little machine next to the cash register. This coupon is good off the purchase of any item in the store. The Walgreens coupons expire quick - usually within two weeks, but you usually have enough time to roll them, that is use them on more items in the next Walgreens weekly ad. Or you can roll them into more items from the same Walgreens weekly ad that are on sale. For example, let's say that Walgreens has St Ives Body Wash on sale for $2.99 with a RR for $2.99. Let's say they also have Crest toothpaste on sale for $2.99 with a $2.99 RR. You could spend $2.99 cash on the St Ives, giving you a $2.99 RR and then take that $2.99 RR and get a free Crest toothpaste, which will then print out another $2.99 RR. This is called rolling your Register Rewards. What you can't do is take that $2.99 RR you got from the St Ives Body Wash and then use it to purchase another St Ives Body Wash. Oh, sure, the register will take it, but it is programed not to print out another $2.99 RR. So just remember, when rolling Walgreens coupons, never purchase the same item with your RR.
You can use manufacturer's coupons and still get a RR (though poorly trained employees will try and tell you differently.) So in the St Ives example above, you could use a $1.50 off manufacturer's coupon, pay $1.49 out of pocket, and still get the $2.99 RR. You just profited $1.50 and got a free body wash! If you want 10 free body washes, you'll need to do 10 separate transactions because only one RR for any specific product will print in any given transactions. Now, you can purchase 5 items that have RR in the Walgreens weekly ad and as long as they are all different offers, can get 5 RR to print, but you can't have more than one same item per transaction. Don't forget, you can visit another Walgreens drugstore. Also important to note, like CVS, you need to make sure that the total number of manufacturer's coupons plus RR does not exceed the number of items in your order. If it does, add in a cheap filler item like a pencil, small candy, or Jell-O. Walgreens drugstores also have their own, in-house Walgreens coupons that are either directly in the weekly ad or in a coupon booklet found in the front of the store. You can use one of these coupons with a manufacturer's coupon just fine, and if your item qualifies for RR, they will print. Also, in-store Walgreens coupons (NOT Register Rewards) do not count against your total number of coupons vs total number of items rule. Clearance ItemsAlways check the clearance shelves in your Walgreens drugstores. Occasionally, you will find a great item that you have a manufacturer's coupon for.
Walgreens registers are programed to beep and not accept a coupon for more than the price of the item. The fix is simple; the cashier either adjusts the price of the clearance item up to $1 or adjusts the price of the coupon down to $0.99. That is company policy. But again, going back to poor training, you will frequently find both employees and managers who will state that this is impossible. You may need to call the corporate office if your regular store is frequently misinformed.
