Start a Santa Letter Business

Mail Children Holiday Event Letters

Santa letter.

Everyone loves getting things in the mail. Especially children.

Can you remember what it felt like when you were a child to receive something in the mail?

mailbox Whether it was a birthday card from Aunt Sue, a little love note from grandma, or even a catalog addressed to you, I'll bet the thrill and excitement of receiving that piece of mail went a long way.

Kids today have even more reasons for getting excited by cards and letters for them in the mailbox.

In this digital age, getting email is commonplace.

But getting something tangible is becoming rarer and rarer.

Now, imagine all the joy and excitement of getting mail, and combine that with beloved holiday characters: A personalized letter from Santa, or the Easter Bunny.

A thank you card from the Tooth Fairy. An apology from the Boogy Man.

There is a huge market when it comes to personalized Santa letters and other holiday letters. Parents are willing to pay for their children to receive such fun communications.

If brightening a child's day sounds like something you would like to do, you may want to start a Santa Letter and Personalized Children's Letter Service.

You can start this kind of business inexpensively, with little more than your imagination.

Getting Started

letter from santa First off, you'll need to decide which holidays you want to offer personalized cards for.

Do you want to do Christmas only?

Or do you want to offer cards for all the major holidays.

Next, decide where you will find your target market.

You can work online exclusively, offline exclusively, or both.

Having an online set up for your business will increase your profits and make it easier for customers to pay and to make repeat sales.

You will also need to decide how you are going to send out your letters. You may choose to send personalized greeting cards with the child's photo in them, along with a photo of Santa, or you may prefer to send out a more traditional letter, accompanied by stickers or reindeer poop.

What You'll Need

No matter if you decide to do your business online or offline, you will need to invest in some business cards.

Personally, my husband and I use VistaPrints exclusively for all our business card needs. You can get free cards for only the price of shipping if you are just starting out, but if you can afford it, pay for the nicer ones. Its not that much more expensive, and they are much more professional. Still, in a pinch, a couple bucks for shipping is a great deal!

Next, you will probably want to spend a little money and invest in some templates for your Santa letters. The best source I have found is from Kids Mail Fun.

How to Start Your Own Santa Letter Writing Business Kit

by Donna Wheeler
and James J Jones

This is an absolutely wonderful kit!

In addition to Santa letter templates, there are templates for every major holiday in the United States.

The templates are very personalized, allowing you to fill in facts about the child such as their name, age, best friend's name, favorite food, and all kinds of other things.

You simply provide the parents with a questionaire (included) for them to fill out to supply you with the info you need.

The ebook also has some great information about Santa letter businesses, and how to promote them locally within your community. An excellent, inexpensive buy.

Now you need to decide how you want to send your Santa letters to the children. You have two options: Greeting Cards and Letters.

Greeting Cards

girl reading card I personally like the Greeting Card method.

You may or may not know that I am a distributor for an excellent Greeting Card System, which allows you to create real greeting cards online.

The cards are then printed in beautiful colors, stuffed into a real envelope, stamped with a real stamp (not metered postage) and sent for you.

All for about a buck a card.

You can design your own cards, and can add photos of your choice. Santa can even sign his name on the cards, or have the entire card written in his handwriting.

Gifts and gift cards can be added to the cards as well.

What does all this mean to you, as a personalized children's card provider?

You can create a card template online. You can have your customers fill out the questionaire and email you a photo of the child. You can place the photo and personalized info into the card, which takes you maybe a minute to do.

The card will ship out when you determine. Done.It automates the personalized process!

Non-Greeting Card System

Of course, you can do this business without using greeting cards. If you would prefer your business to have a more traditional letter approach, and you would like to add stickers and reindeer poop (or reindeer food) into your letters instead of photos of the children, then this would be a better option for you.

You'll want to invest in some colorful envelopes, a stamp from the North Pole, and some nice paper for your letters. If you are purchasing the templates you do not need custom holiday paper, as they have boarders and graphics included in the templates for each holiday.

You will also need to purchase some stickers or little goodies for your letters. The best place to get these is at Oriental Trading Company. The prices are very affordable.

Promoting Your Business

There are two ways to promote your business: online and offline.

Online
You'll need a website. Specifically, you'll need a SiteBuildIt website.

Creating a SiteBuildIt (SBI!) website is the best investment (of time and money) that you could possibly make in order to promote any business.

SBI! assumes you know nothing about website construction, design, coding, and promotion. They take you through step-by-step teaching you the crucial things you need to learn, and they handle all the monotonous and repetitive stuff for you.

There is no comparison to any other program online. SBI! delivers results. It is an all in one kit that will allow you to construct your own traffic generating website.

Its what I have used on this website, its what my husband is using on his website, and it is how I am creating the next website I am working on.

eBay

You can also promote your business on eBay and take orders there.

Offline
There are several ways to advertise your business offline. You do not need to have a store front in order to do so.

You can participate in local fundraisers for schools and children's charities, you can set up a booth at a craft show or flea market, and you can even approach businesses and offer them a commission for selling your Santa letters.

Good luck on getting your children's personalized letter service started! It can be a fun and profitable way to earn real income.
