Well, here are some personal TightWad Tips for other areas in your life.
Save Money on Hair Care
Do it YourselfI cut my family’s hair myself. I use a
WAHL Personal Trimmer
to cut my husband’s and son’s hair, and just trim my daughter’s hair as needed.

They don’t need fancy styles, just simple cuts.
I will admit I was intimidated doing it the first time.
In fact, I practiced on my then 4 year old son’s hair for a few months before attempting to try my husband’s, but it isn’t hard to do at all.
The money I saved from having them get their hair cut at a salon paid for the trimmer the very first time we used it.
So far, we’ve been doing this 3 years now.
Just the BasicsIf you do decide to get your hair cut at a salon, make sure you opt to keep the price low by sticking to the basics. You can color your hair at home, don’t spend upwards of $100 to do it at the beauty parlor.
Wash your hair before you come, and don’t pay extra to have it blown dry. Also, try to keep your hair long so that you do not need to have it cut as often.
BarterYou also may be able to pay for hair care services through effective bartering.
Does your husband fix cars or change oil? Maybe he can trade that for a new do. Can you babysit your hairstylist’s kids one evening? Offer a date night trade for a styling. Get creative! Many self employed individuals are happy to barter services. This can be a great personal tightwad tips method.
Save Money on Clothing
Just Say NO…to Dry CleaningDon’t purchase clothing that needs to be dry cleaned. This will save you the hassle, and expense of cleaning these garments.
Buy UsedCheck Yard Sales, GoodWill, and other thrift stores in your area for good quality, affordable, used clothing. If your kids turn their noses up at used clothing, shop without them. Simply bring home and launder the new-to-them item. Second hand clothing is inexpensive, and good for the environment.
If You’re Sew InclinedMake your own clothing if you are sew inclined. You can find good deals on material at WalMart, or you can recycle old garments into new ones.
Good with a sewing machine? Patchwork hippy skirts
sell good on eBay.
Mama ExchangeLook in your area for a Mother’s Exchange. I have participated in several over the years in different moms groups and MOPS groups. You can even create a local group yourself.
Here’s How it Works:A group of moms get together with all their unneeded clothing, toys, games, etc. This can be strictly for the kids, or for everyone in the family.
All items are placed in groups, per clothing size, type of item, etc, in much the same way as you would see a garage sale set up.
Based on when the mothers arrived, each mother will get to walk the exchange and pick out 3 items of her choice, for free.
After all mothers have chosen, the line starts over again, with each mother choosing another 3. After that, it can be a free-for-all event.
Excess items are boxed up and sent to a local charity.
