People Who Give Money Away - Finding Charities to Donate To for Stay at Home Moms

giving back to your community
People who give money away often feel better about themselves and their communities, plus, teach a valuable lesson to their children. Learn more about giving back and finding charities to donate to for stay at home moms.

Times are tough and money is tight. In a world where stay at home moms have to carefully count their pennies in order to keep the home fires burning, donating money to charity can seem out of our sphere of financial comfort.

But people who give money away to worthwhile organizations often find that the benefits are as big for them as they are for the people receiving the money.

Why do people donate to charity anyway? Is it just for the tax break? Or is it something more? And just how does one find the honest charities to donate to?

According to recent studies, people who give money away to worthwhile causes do so for a variety of reasons. Religion often plays a factor and many non profits organizations are run by people affiliated with churches.

The idea that donating money directly reflects the values and perspectives of an individual is another reason. It provides a sense of self worth, and you never know how donating to a charity can indirectly benefit you one day.

Also, people who give money away to charitable organizations are teaching children, and even adults, about the importance of showing care and concern for others.

How much should you give to a charitable organization? Try 10% of your earnings. Yes, that's what most people who give money away to charity consider really giving back.

However, not everyone can afford to do that. It may be more realistic for you to consider 1-2% at first. Perhaps even setting a small goal, like $50 a month to your favorite charities to donate to might be a better solution for you. Then every month, try adding $5 to that.

Non profit organizations (NPO) are everywhere, and there are many choices when it comes to figuring out which charities to donate to. The trick is choosing one which means something special to you and your family.

Lots of churches have NPOs, and the money they collect goes towards all sorts of things to help out members of the community. However, churches are not the only NPOs out there.

People who give money to NPOs often help out groups like Habitat for Humanity, Goodwill, and the Red Cross. Sometimes an NPO is called an endowment, but it's still a charitable organization.

There are endowments for the arts and for literacy, as well as, teachers, youth groups, and volunteer fire fighters. Again, the point is to find a charity or cause you believe in and support them. Here are a few other ideas for charities to donate to.

Heifer International
This charity practices the "teach a man to fish" mentality. People who give money away to this group help them provide farm animals and supplies to needy communities throughout the world, not to just feed people, but to teach them to farm the animals for profit.

This allows the families and communities to learn how to sustain themselves.

Sheridan House Family Ministries
They help troubled youth and single mothers. The director, Dr. Robert Barnes, has written several informative parenting books, which are for sale on the website and benefit the ministry.

Missionary Ventures
This worldwide missionary organization helps support families everywhere and is a good choice for people who give money away to charities.

There are also many excellent charities to donate to that help children like Toys for Tots or Operation Christmas child. Many people who give money away to charity begin by checking their local area for a listing of non profit organizations close by.

If you still are unsure about which ones to give to or what kind of reputation they might have, check out Charity Navigator.org or CharityWatch.org to find lots more charities that need your help.

Remember, giving to others is a noble and good thing. As a stay at home mom, this is a great opportunity to teach your children about the importance of caring for others. You never know how this may benefit you in the future!
