Homemade All Purpose Cleaner - Homemade Cleaner Recipes

Homemade all purpose cleaner is not too difficult to make using these homemade cleaner recipes. Follow along step-by-step with this make your own homemade cleaners video guide and stay a stay at home mom.

We all want the perfect cleanser that does a little of everything, but doesn't scratch surfaces or have harsh chemicals in it. Try the following recipe for a cleaner that can be used for cleaning the bathrooms, sinks, and countertops, or really just anything around the house that you need cleaned.

What You’ll Need

  • (1) Tsp borax
  • ½ tsp Baking Soda
  • 2 Tbs white vinegar
  • ½ tsp liquid castile soap
  • 2 cups hot water
  • Essential Oil
  • Spray bottle
  • Finding Your Supplies:

20-mule team borax is widely available today. I have seen it at Walmarts throughout the country, generally in the laundry aisle.

    Baking Soda
This is one of those homemade cleaner recipes that would work with either Baking Soda or Washing Soda, so use whatever you have on hand.

    White Vinegar
Though you only need 2 tbs for this recipe, buy a big bottle, or even a gallon of white vinegar. You can use it for many more cleaning chores, such as glass cleaner and toilet cleaner.

    Liquid Castile Soap
You can find this at health food stores, or even on Amazon. The most common brand name is Dr Bronner's. The most cost advantageous is the gallon size, and this is a product that can be used to clean your home and your family. You can even use it as toothpaste!

    Hot Water
I use an electric tea kettle in this video, though you can just use super-hot tap water.

    Essential Oil
If you want your cleaner to smell particularly good, you can add in an essential oil such as lemon or lavender. I’m using lemon eucalyptus in the video. This ingredient is optional.

    Spray Bottle
You can recycle an old spray bottle, or buy a new one at the dollar store or in the cleaning supply section of Walmart for about a dollar. If you do buy one new, make sure you keep it to reuse it later.

    Making Homemade All Purpose Cleaner

To make your homemade all purpose cleaner, first pour the hot water into a bowl. Add the borax, baking soda, white vinegar, and castile soap. Stir the ingredients to make sure they dissolve. Now add in 10-15 drops of your essential oil.

Using a funnel, pour your cleaner into your bottle. Spray and enjoy!

    It really is that easy!

    Alternate Homemade Cleaner Recipes

Though the above cleaner is my favorite homemade all purpose cleaner, there are hundreds of other recipes. Here’s another, non-castile soap recipe to make your own homemade cleaners: mix 1 part vinegar, 1 part baking soda, and hot water together. Add a little of your favorite essential oil for a nice fresh smell.

You could also substitute clear shampoo (you can find this at the dollar store) instead of castile soap, though it will not be as “natural”.
