Home Daycare Alternative

Childcare Alternatives in Your Home

Home Daycare Alternative

Maybe you like the idea of earning supplemental income by watching other kids, but don’t like the time constraints put on your family’s free time.

Maybe you don’t do diapers.

Maybe you have older children and would prefer to watch older children.

Whatever the reason, do not feel that you need to conform to a traditional home daycare in order to earn supplemental income in this field.

Occasional Baby Sitting

diaper change Who says you have to watch children on a schedule?

You can offer occasional babysitting and/or nanny services in your home or in the child’s home.

This could be on a part time basis, for instance, every Wednesday while the mother went to her Yoga Class, or on an occasional basis, like once in a while when mom has a doctor’s appointment, or for a date night with mom and dad.

You should charge an hourly rate for these services.

Mom's Day Out

You could offer a day once a week, once every two weeks, or once a month as a Mom’s Day Out.

This would particularly appeal to Stay at Home Moms.

For a flat fee, usually around $25, moms could drop their children off with you for a 4-6 hour span.

They could use these free hours to:
Go to the Doctors
Go Grocery Shopping
Go Christmas Shopping
Get their Hair and Nails Done
Get a Massage
Have a Lunch Date with Daddy
Take a Class or Attend a Workshop
Prepare Meals at a Convenience Kitchen
Visit with Friends
Clean the House
Read a Book
Sleep

This would allow you to provide services on occasion, but still earn a good stream of supplemental income.

HomeSchooler's Day Out

group of moms Another Home Daycare Alternative is taking the Mom’s Day Out concept and market it to homeschool families.

These moms are the perpetual SAHMs.

While most mothers eventually have free time when their children hit school age, homeschooling mothers are with their children 24/7.

Don’t get me wrong, they like this.

But sometimes it’s nice to have an afternoon to yourself.

You could offer to have an arts and crafts afternoon for homeschooled children. They do something fun and constructive, mom is able to take care of chores, and you earn extra money.

Parent's Night Out

dining out What about offering a Parent’s Night Out once or twice a month?

Pick a good Friday or Saturday night, rent PG movies, order pizza, and set up sleeping bags.

Offer to watch school aged children, in your home, for a mini slumber party from 6pm-midnight.

Parents can take the opportunity to go out on a date with one another, and will have plenty of time for dinner and a movie.

You could charge $25-50 per child for this service.

Holiday Child Care

christmas presents It can be quite challenging for parents to find child care on a holiday.

If you are able to offer services on these days, you could charge a premium rate.

New Years

Offer a Parent’s Night Out on New Year’s Eve.

Make sure that you offer care for the entire night.

You could charge $50-100 per child for this in most areas.

Other Holidays
Depending on what religion you are, or how you are planning to spend major holidays yourself, offering care to working parents on some of the major holidays can be a good idea.

While typical bank holidays would not fall into this group, the following would:
Christmas Eve
Christmas Day
Thanksgiving
Easter
4th of July

If you are only watching one or two children on a holiday, it might be easier than you think. Simply include the child in on your normal holiday plans.

Preschool Program

You might be interested in putting together a preschool program for other SAHMs as a home daycare alternative.

If your child is preschool aged, and you would like to form a class of sorts, another home daycare alternative is to consider creating materials for 3-5 children and presenting a home preschool.

You could hold your preschool 2-3 times a week, for 2-3 hours each time.

The kids would socialize, the crafts would be fun, and you would earn a little extra on the side.

The moms would have a couple hours to themselves as well.
