Coordinate Foriegn Exchange StudentsExchange Student Info for Stay at Home Mom Income
When I was 17, I went to Japan as part of a high school foreign exchange program. It was only for a few weeks during the summer, but that experience is one of my fondest memories in life. I got to see first hand how drastically different cultures can be, while still having much in common. I never did end up liking sushi, but am planning on putting in a furo (a Japanese soaking tub) into a custom bathroom we'll build. Foriegn exchange students visit our country and other countries every year. The term "exchange student" is somewhat of a misnomer. I remember when I was contemplating my trip, my mother absolutely refused for several months because she assumed that someone else would come to live in my place. But that's not how it works. A family can send one of their children, or receive another for a certain length of time in order to participate in a high school foreign exchange program. As mentioned above, families are not generally compensated for hosting exchange students; they do it for the unique experience and the joy of showing off their country, state, and town to a young representative of a foreign land. So how does this all play into stay at home mom income? While hosting exchange students does not pay, coordinating foriegn exchange students, and their hosts, does. As an Area Representative for ASSE, you can be compensated between $650-850 for each student you oversee during their stay in your area. How it WorksArea Representatives are sort of a liaison between a host family and exchange student, and the exchange student program ASSE. They find families desiring to host foriegn exchange students and give them exchange student info, help fill out paperwork, and are available as the journey progresses. Here's an overview of their duties:
Area Representatives are encouraged to place many foriegn exchange students in their area, if possible. Payments are not made immediately; they do take several months to be received, mainly because the process (placing, the exchange itself, etc) is long. If you are in need of immediate stay at home mom income, this may not be right for you. But if you are interested in representing your town and helping some great high school students along the way, this might be the perfect opportunity. How to ApplyThere are no fees or start up costs associated with becoming an Area Representative with ASSE. You simply go to the website here, and apply to be a volunteer Area Representative. Yes, you will be compensated that $650-850 per student as a "volunteer".Apply to be an Area Representative for ASSE More InfoIf you have more questions or need more exchange student info before applying, feel free to fill out this form to contact Kary B., an Area Coordinator who works with new Area Representatives in her area. This coordinator happens to be from Texas (you'll get one local to you) but is happy to assist all those who feel they might like to become an Area Representative. Please note: this foriegn exchange students opportunity is only available in the United States.
