Child Care Exchange - Ideas for Babysitting Savings

trade babysitting
A child care exchange with close friends can be an excellent strategy to save money.

Consider implementing date nights by trading babysitting duties.

As a stay at home mom, your children are probably the most precious things in your life.

You love and nurture them, as well as, make sure they are clothed and fed.

In addition to that, you have a husband who works hard, too, and wants to spend quality time with you.

Yet, no matter how dedicated you are as a wife and mother, you still deserve a break and time for yourself.

Unfortunately, getting that break from your children can be pricey, and if your goal is to be frugal with your budget, it's time to think of different ways of setting up a babysitting exchange.

Here some simple ideas for babysitting that won't cost you an arm and a leg!

Reasons to Try a Babysitting Exchange

I'm sure you can think of a million reasons to use a babysitter. Let's face it, date night with the hubby, appointments with the gynecologist, or grocery shopping go a little smoother without the presence of little ones.

All moms need a "mental" health day every now and again, and nothing helps more with that than a trip to the spa or salon. But it can be difficult to relax if little Johnny is running around the shop singing his favorite Sponge Bob songs.

Heck, some moms are so overworked that they just want a little quiet time to sleep! There is nothing wrong with that and no reason to feel guilty over it either. Everyone needs help or a break at one point or another.

So how do you get this help without breaking the bank? After all, you want to leave your children with people you trust and can depend on. The key is to start looking around at ways to create a babysitting exchange with friends and neighbors.

Child Care Exchange Options

One of several ideas for babysitting is asking your friends or neighbors to help you out.

You must be picky about who you leave your children with, which is why using people you know well is a great option.

Offer to set up a child care exchange with them, meaning they baby sit your child for awhile and you will do the same for them.

They'll be just as grateful for the free babysitting time as you are.

When it comes to considering ideas for babysitting, don't overlook your local Moms groups. Many of these groups will provide inexpensive Mother's Day Out type activities or will get you into a group of moms who need similar help. This is a good opportunity to take care of your personal needs, but to also speak with other moms in similar situations.

Churches are another option for child care exchange. Lots of them offer part time daycare programs, summer camps, or vacation bible school. Usually these are very reasonably priced!

Setting Up Your Own Child Care Exchange

Of the many ideas for babysitting, taking the initiative and setting up a child care exchange co-op with two or three of your friends is a definite possibility. It isn't difficult to do and can be a real life safer.

A co-op like this basically just means several moms getting together and agreeing to take care of each other's children in exchange for the same services. It costs each mom nothing and they all benefit from it. If you have older kids, this is especially nice because many times they entertain themselves! Another nice benefit of this type of child care exchange is that you are leaving your kids with someone you trust: another mom.

In order to create a co-op that allows for equal time in child care exchange, do some research on the internet. There are several sites that will walk you through a points style set up where you can keep track of who has done what and who is available to help you. Once you get the hang of that type of system, it may be possible to include other trusted moms into your co-op and get even more help!

Remember: there is nothing wrong with needing time away from your children. It doesn't mean you love them less or that you don't want to be with them. Everyone needs a break or time with just their spouse. Finding ways to use a child care exchange is a great and affordable way to meet this goal!
