Can You Get Rich Quick?

I am often asked, via my email contact form, what the best home based business to start is, out of all that I recommend.



I am also frequently asked questions such as “What should I do to start earning $100 a week?” or “How can I afford staying home with my children?”

The truth is, there is no one set way for someone to earn money or start a business. There is no best home based business option for everyone.

All of the ideas and options I have given you here in my pages do work, and any one of them can be the best home based business for you, and can earn you the most money.

You see, the key to working at home, whether you are supplementing an income or you are replacing an income is to do something you are interested in, that will allow your passion and enthusiasm to shine through.

Now, I know many of you are thinking that that answer really sucks, and you’d rather a "Do Option A for the most money, fastest!" but Option A doesn’t work for everyone.

For instance, I am terrific at Network Marketing. I can build up a quality team, quickly, and earn residual income all within my comfort zone. I can make good money, and were I to devote 100% of my time exclusively to my Network Marketing business, I could easily replace my husband’s income within a year or two.

But I would NEVER recommend my mother get involved in Network Marketing. She couldn’t sell water to a person dying of dehydration in the desert. She simply is no good at selling things.

Network Marketing would never work for her. But, she would be an excellent birth doula. She has been a nurse for 30 years, and has an interest in maternity. She might even want to go on and become a midwife.

Each situation is different, and each person’s skills and interests are different. Someone who is facing the prospects of not having enough money to put food on the table probably shouldn’t attempt to start a website, since it will take about a year of hard work to see any results.

Someone who is easily living off of one income and has a passion for flower pressing maybe should consider starting a website about their hobby as the best home based business, since they have the time to invest in the project and becoming a webmaster is one of the most profitable things you can do.

The work at home world has no quick and easy fix. There is no one size fits all, no best home based business, no free lunch, no real "jobs" like what you are used to in the traditional world.

Unless you are highly skilled (read: 4+ year college degree and several years experience in a given industry), or convince your current employer to allow you to telecommute, you will not find a real job online that will allow you to work at home while enjoying the pay and benefits of your 9-5 counterparts. It just doesn’t exist.

The key is to create your own opportunities, and your own income, in a new and evolving world. That’s difficult for many.

Too many stay at home moms drift in and out of cyberspace, dabbling in one "business opportunity" after another, looking for the best home based business, being taken in by one scam or another, all in an attempt to find the one magic pill that will make it all possible.

There is no magic pill.

It’s also important to realize that there are two types of ways to earn money at home. One will provide you with a small amount of money, but will be fast. The other will provide you a large amount of money, but will take time and often money to produce. Your situation will determine which sort of opportunity you will seek.

And I’m sorry to break it to you, but there is absolutely no option that will allow you to get a large amount of money in a short amount of time. Anyone telling you different is selling you something.

To become a work at home mom, you will need the following:

Discipline: You need to commit to whatever best home based business opportunity you decide on. Learn about your business, educate yourself, dedicate the time and/or money you need to invest in order to make it work. If you cannot do this, then you need to consider the possibility that becoming a work at home mom is not for you.

Sense of Purpose: You need to know WHY you are doing this. Is it out of necessity? Too much month left at the end of your money, even after examining ways to Reduce Expenses and Stretch Your Dollar? Are you doing this to pay off extra bills, or save for retirement ? Will the money you earn be put towards vacation, or something fun for your family?

Timeline: How soon do you need the income? If this income is the difference between meeting your mortgage payment and living on the streets, then your income situation is dire. If, however, this money is "extra", then you are a little more flexible with your options.

Examine Your Skills and Interests: This is the most important thing you can do. Do NOT enter direct sales or network marketing if you are shy, reserved, and don’t like selling things! I see this happen way too often. This is not the best home based business option for you! Write down your hobbies and all the skills you have acquired over the years and take a look at them. What jumps out at you? A love of dogs? A passion for cooking? Advanced skills as a graphic designer?

Again, the most important thing is to figure out what you are good at and go with it. If you are in a dire emergency and need funds fast, honestly, it is much easier to reduce your expenses and stretch your dollar rather than try to gain more money.

Oh, and by the way, the other question I get asked frequently is if this site is ONLY for stay at home moms. The answer is no.

This site was created to help those of us who are stay at home moms, but if you do not fit that category and find the information useful, by all means, please use it! It doesn’t matter if you are a stay at home dad, a grandparent facing retirement, or a single person without children altogether.
