Become a Virtual Assistant

Work from Your Home

Become a Virtual Assistant.

There has been a lot of talk lately about virtual assistance, and becoming a VA as a viable opportunity for stay at home moms.

The truth is, this type of work can be a good source of supplemental income for stay at home moms.

What is a VA?

virtual assistantA VA, Virtual Assistant, is an independent contractor who works out of her home instead of at a client's place of business.

She handles administrative or secretarial tasks based on an hourly or per job basis.

A VA may be a temperary contractor, hired for a specific task, or may be given an ongoing gig.

She can work for just one or for multiple clients. Her clients can be local or anywhere in the world.

It is important to note that a VA is not an employee, and as such is responsible for her own expenses including payroll and taxes.

What Kinds of Jobs do VA's Do?

Virtual Assistants can do all kinds of things. The only limit to the services offered by a VA is her experience and comfort level.

Think of a VA as an assistant who is able to do any work needed by a client in order to free that client up for income producing activities.

Typical Assistance Offered:
  • --Data Entry
  • --Answering Phone Calls
  • --Creating Letters, Logos, Business Cards
  • --Creating PowerPoint Presentations
  • --Bookkeeping
  • --Planning Events or Travel
  • --Running Errands
  • --Creating Newsletters
  • --Handling Lists and Mailings
  • --Website Maintenance, Design, Upgrades
  • --SEO, Search Engine Submission
  • --Submitting Ads and Articles
  • --Writing Content
  • --Any Tasks Pertaining to a Specific Industry

Basically, a Virtual Assistant can be hired to complete any sort of task that can be outsourced.

Though you may not have skills in all the above areas, that's ok. Start with what you know, offer those services, and be prepared to learn.

Find a specific niche area you would like to work in, and learn everything you can about tasks needing to be done in that field. Then become a virtual assistant and offer your services to that niche market.

Freelance from Home!

The 5 Key Steps to Your Successful Virtual Assistant Business

by Lisa Taliga

Lisa also goes over extensively how to make real money in this industry. The other resources I have included to get you started are really just a stepping stone. Most pay hardly minimum wage. Lisa shows you how to command lucrative wages and not sell yourself short.

If you are eager to build a real income stream in this field, not an occasional source of pocket money, her ebook and workbooks will help you get there.

The best part about Lisa's work is how ultra organized and incredibly professional it is. She really leads by example. If you want to become a virtual assistant, emulate her and you will be a sure success.

As you are getting started in your journey to become a virtual assistant, I'm sure you will have a lot of questions. Those not answered by Lisa's package can be asked at a message board such as:

Job Boards

mom and baby on computerWhen you decide to become a virtual assistant, you will also be looking for various places to acquire gigs or jobs.

Though I do not recommend the following sources for any sort of long term use, in the beginning, just to get your feet wet, you'll want to check out the following bidding boards.

For a fee, they allow you to bid on different jobs.

Keep in mind that this market is international, and many bidders are from countries where the cost of living is very low compared to American standards. This means that most of the jobs available are insultingly low in pay.

Best advice: do NOT price yourself so competitively that you cannot afford to do the work. Yes, you will need to keep your prices low, but only use these boards to gain experience. Do not expect to supplement income on a regular basis from this sort of work.
