Get Back to BasicsGrow Your Own FoodGet Back to Basics. Of all the people I have spoken to over the years, those who do some of the work themselves are the ones who save the most on food expenses. This may seem like an odd idea in the 21st century, but it actually is a very cost effective way to stretch your food dollar, and as a stay at home mom can help you teach your children valuable lessons about life. Fruits and Vegetables: Growing your own fruits and vegetables in a victory garden can be a very cost effective approach. For the price of some seeds and some of your time, you can enjoy fresh vegetables, possibly year round. Limited on space? Check out All New Square Foot Gardening Rabbits: Rabbits are popular animals to raise for meat purposes in both rural and urban locations. They breed quickly, do not take up too much space, and are high in nutrients. A female rabbit can produce 1000% of her body weight in a year in usable meat. The rabbits can be used to get back to basics for personal consumption, or you can even start a business. You can sell rabbit meat, rabbit furs, crafts made from rabbit furs, or the rabbits themselves as pets. Check out: Rudolph's Rabbit Ranch for more information on raising meat rabbits. Also, rabbit manure is an excellent fertilizer. And did you know that it is an excellent resource for worms? Raising Fishworms With Rabbits Other Animals Of course, if you have the space, raising chickens and goats can save you a bundle on food expenses as well. I hope this information goes a long way towards helping with your grocery and food expenses. I realize that not everyone will find the value in, say, raising rabbits that I do, but maybe it will get those gears in your mind moving! Maybe it will prompt you to seek out someone in your community who does raise rabbits. Maybe their son needs piano lessons, which, you just happen to offer. A possible trade can be arranged. There are opportunities everywhere. Think outside the box. Here are some other ways to save on food expenses.
